Technoeconomic analysis for biofuels and bioproducts

چکیده

Technoeconomic analysis (TEA) is an approach for conducting process design and simulation, informed by empirical data, to estimate capital costs, operating mass balances, energy balances a commercial scale biorefinery. TEA serves as useful method screen potential research priorities, identify cost bottlenecks at the earliest stages of research, provide data needed conduct life-cycle environmental assessments. Recent studies have produced new tools methods enable faster iteration on designs, more robust uncertainty analysis, greater accessibility through use open-source platforms. There also trend toward expansive system boundaries incorporate impact policy incentives, use-phase performance differences, impacts global market supply.

Green biofuels and bioproducts: bases for sustainability analysis

Currently, the chemical industry is largely petroleum based and although the number of ongoing large-scale biocatalytic processes is relatively low, a trend in growth is expected and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and other agencies aim to have 30% of the total chemical industry based on renewable sources by 2050 (Philp et al., 2013). At present, a good number ...

Engineering Plant Biomass Lignin Content and Composition for Biofuels and Bioproducts

Lignin is an aromatic biopolymer involved in providing structural support to plant cell walls. Compared to the other cell wall polymers, i.e., cellulose and hemicelluloses, lignin has been considered a hindrance in cellulosic bioethanol production due to the complexity involved in its separation from other polymers of various biomass feedstocks. Nevertheless, lignin is a potential source of val...

Rhodosporidium toruloides: a new platform organism for conversion of lignocellulose into terpene biofuels and bioproducts

BACKGROUND Economical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into biofuels and bioproducts is central to the establishment of a robust bioeconomy. This requires a conversion host that is able to both efficiently assimilate the major lignocellulose-derived carbon sources and divert their metabolites toward specific bioproducts. RESULTS In this study, the carotenogenic yeast Rhodosporidium torul...

An Analysis of China’s Biofuels Policy and Chinese Discourse on Land Acquisition for Biofuels in Africa

China has recently undertaken a very ambitious biofuel production program. However due to a lack of arable land domestically, this program has necessitated the leasing of arable land elsewhere (e.g., in Africa). This thesis first conducts a policy analysis of China’s biofuel policy using a historical institutionalism ends-and-means framework. The analysis reveals the ways in which China achieve...
